
Musician's Bios
Albert Kaprielian - is a pianist/singer who draws from a large repertoire of jazz, blues, classic pop/rock, R&B, Celtic, and other styles. He has been performing steadily since moving to Ottawa in 2004, playing solo, and with many of Ottawa's finest musicians. From weddings, corporate events, festivals, and private parties, to various restaurants and pubs, Albert thoroughly enjoys entertaining audiences with his music.
Andrei Krylov - started guitar studies in St. Petersburg, Russia at the age
of 11. He has been compared favorably to many great guitar players, but has a style uniquely of his own. In addition to his classical and flamenco music, Andrei (who also was trained as a jazz guitarist) has a repertoire of original jazz compositions.
Angèle & her Swingin' Devils - Angele has made several recordings as part of her performing arts program and has also been involved in recorded radio commercials. Now living in Ottawa, Angele works with her jazz ensemble (with Peter McGibbon and Greg Stone) and keeps busy with performances in the Ottawa area. In July, 2011 Angele released her debut album "Singularity" with her bandmates "Angele and her Swinging Devils".
Bethan Nodwell - is a intelligent and sophisticated jazz singer. With decades of experience she has entertained small intimate parties and large swinging bandstands. Working in partnership with Greg Stone on guitar, and a groove master on bass, Bethan creates an atmosphere of inspiration and celebration not to be missed.
Boudreau Elliott Duo -Steve Boudreau is an Ottawa-based jazz pianist. Since moving back from Boston in 2010 after studies at the New England Conservatory, he has been involved in many projects, including a trio record with vocalist Laura Grill; a solo piano record; and a recording with Friends on Friends, instrumental interpretations of the music of Brian Wilson. Ottawa guitarist Garry Elliott has been on the Ottawa jazz scene for many years, having been a regular in past festivals and in many of the city's jazz venues.
Craig Pedersen - is a trumpet playing performer-composer and educator based out of Ottawa. He holds his BMus in education (2006) from the University of Victoria where he studied with Louis Ranger, and a MMus in chamber music performance (2010) from the University of Ottawa, where he studied with Karen Donnelly. Craig is an active musician and educator in both Ottawa and Montreal, where he performs classical, jazz, rock and improvised music. His most recent projects have involved improvisation and its application within experimental electronic music, dance/music projects and educational settings.
Diane White - Diane's unique style resounds with her intense love of life, her seductive relationship
with the arts and the polished professionalism that flows from formal musical studies – all elements of her personal dedication to entertainment. As a performer, she’s performed
big band, funk and musical theatre; her talents include trombone, piano and song
writing; she’s an actress and a model; she’s performed voice-overs; music for television
productions and she was one of the producers on her debut album Pure & Simple. Diane’s
innate ability to make innovations resonate with the jazz tradition is one of the secrets of
her award-winning career.
Doug Martin (Double Take) - is a duo performing mostly jazz standards with a few originals sprinkled in here and there. The group, which has performed in the Ottawa area for 15 years now, features Doug Martin on saxes and Ian Card on piano.
Groove² - one of the hottest live bands in Ottawa blends the highest musicianship with some of the best songs written for live performances, for a variety of musical formats including Duo, Trio and Quartet. Groove² plays Jazz Standards, Smooth Jazz, Funk, and Latin at a volume you can talk over. Groove² can also add R&B and pop tunes to the mix and bring up the volume for an evening of dancing. Covered artists include David Sanborn, Spyo Gyra, Brian Hughes, Luther Vandross, Earth Wind and Fire, Boney James and Jeff Lorber among many other.
Halie Loren - The first thing you notice is that voice: deep and rich and warm, gorgeous, graceful, and somehow earthy and ethereal at once. It is an instrument perfectly pitched and primed to each line, with each audible breath. Just as warm and familiar and frankly right as the needle hitting the groove on vinyl. Loren’s newest release, ‘Heart First’ was released in Japan (JVC/Victor) in December 2011, garnering Jazz Critique Magazine’s 2011 coveted "Golden (top) prize" in the Vocal Jazz Album category. Playing to sell-out audiences both abroad and in the US, Loren continues touring in support of ‘Heart First’, which was released by Justin Time Records worldwide in March 2012.
EclectiK (Duo) - Iyono and Steve had the opportunity to meet when they both joined a local group by the name of Sugarphyx. There they had the opportunity to work together for the first time. Although Sugarphyx disbanded a couple of years later, that was not to be the end of this dynamic duo. What started out as working in the studio on original tunes, turned into something more. A couple months of rehearsals and development of a repertoire of music focused on a little something for everyone, Iyono and Steve had their first show and haven't looked back since.
Jason Raso - has a funk heart and a jazz head. They are hard wired together by the 4 strings of his bass guitar, and an innate ability to craft music. Having just release album #6, Jason continues to grow as a musician and composer. His talent and originality are expressed by ongoing mastery of his instruments, and an appetite for musical knowledge.

Kimberley Dunn - Kimberley is a classically trained piano vocalist who has been stunning audiences for years with her beautiful voice. Described as having the “Voice of an Angel”, Kimberley’s soft, enchanting vocals have often been compared to those of Sarah McLachlan. Her easy listening interpretations of popular cover favorites are fresh and captivating with songs that are easily recognizable and yet unique. Enjoyed by all ages, Kimberley covers a wide range of genres from pop, rock, folk, and jazz.
Miguel De Armas - is a versatile jazz pianist and composer, able to blend disparate strands of Cuban and American jazz traditions into a fresh, modern whole. He began his classical music training at age 9 studying Piano and Drums. In 1988, he founded an acclaimed Cuban band with other prestigious Cuban musicians. During more than a decade, he toured with NG La Banda Orchestra around the world and also performed periodically at the most relevant international jazz scenes. Miguel has been performing in Ottawa since his arrival to Canada in late 2011. While performing, he shapes the Afro-Cuban themes, forms and rhythms which have provided him with inspiration for his life’s work. His Piano idiom is melodious, rhythmic and exciting. When Miguel plays he transforms the daily routines of our lives into something beautiful and significant.
Nathalie Khoriaty is a singer-songwriter whose love for music and song has filled her life with passion and dedication. Her clear and honest voice, combined with her creativity and songwriting, are some of the qualities that define Nathalie as a musician. Her love for life and people inspire her to express the stories of her life and to share the joys and sorrows of her heart. As a genuine performer, she captures and touches people’s hearts and reaches her audiences with her warmth and reflections. Nathalie began private piano lessons at the age of five and was awarded prizes from many classical festivals and music competitions throughout her classical career. At the age of fifteen, she discovered a deep interest in singing and songwriting and since then has embarked on an exciting journey which has led her to many wonderful places. Her passion fills her mind, her heart and her soul and her humanistic side is only a part of what she portrays in her music. Mississippi Love, her first album, is a clear indication of her ability to incorporate her life experiences and those of the people she meets and loves into her music. Nathalie’s music is an expression of love and life.
Nicolas Carey - is a talented jazz pianist, keyboard and trombone player who has stunned audiences both in Canada and internationally for years. Not only a performer, Nic is also acclaimed for directing and orchestrating productions, musicals and soundtracks.
Nicole Ratté - a musician and singer since childhood, Nicole Ratté evolved in different styles before developing a true passion for jazz. At home on the stage, she is known for her warm and effervescent presence and her light and sensual voice. Her performances include her favourite jazz standards, with some special arrangements of well known French songs. She also sings in Spanish and Portuguese. Featured outstanding musicians are: Mark Ferguson on piano, Tom Denison on bass, Jeff Asselin on drums and Mike Tremblay on saxophone. Always, Nicole warms up the atmosphere and offers you a relaxed and delightful evening of jazz.
Peter Woods - plays all sorts of gigs. With his saxophone, he has played for pig-roasts on the Rideau Lakes and at large church gatherings in Toronto and Halifax. His main love is jazz, but he also enjoys making music with colleagues steeped in rock and blues and folk and classical genres. He can be heard on Sunday mornings in church, usually in Smiths Falls, and many evenings in clubs and restaurants around Eastern Ontario.
Rachel Beausoleil - has been entertaining Ottawa audiences with her warm and sultry interpretations for over 15 years. She has played at private parties, large corporate functions, and cultural events such as the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the Feast of Fields. Currently, Rachel is promoting her new album, The Dawning, which features her powerful and dynamic voice against an intimate backdrop of piano and bass. This eclectic collection includes not only jazz standards, but also songs from diverse ethnic traditions (ranging from Acadia to Latin America, with a detour through Russia) and a new arrangement of a familiar number from the Sound of Music. “What brings these songs together for me,” says Rachel, “is the sense of intense love and obsessive passion that they convey through themes of nature, hope and inspiration.”
Rebecca Noelle Abbott -has had the privilege and versatility to try her hand at just about every musical style she's wanted to over the years. But it’s her natural affinity for Soul and Jazz that has set this stunning singer apart. Rebecca Noelle continues making monthly visits to the London Jazz club where her grandfather, highly sought after - Canadian Jazz Master: John Noubarian is the house pianist. Rebecca fuses Jazz & Soul with Pop and R&B and audiences can tell, she's finally found her groove. Rebecca Noelle continues to shape her sound, taking her music in a slightly different direction from where she began, and is currently working on her debut Soul-Jazz album.
Rene Gely (Pulse Mondiale) - Pulse Mondiale is a sonic voyage through the rhythms and textures of this planets limitless styles of music. Leader Rene Gely plays guitar, piano and sings a repertoire of Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, jazz and folk songs accompanied by Rob Graves on percussion, Norm Glaude on bass and Rick Rangno on trumpet.
Renée Yoxon - Young vocalist Renée Yoxon is a central figure in Ottawa’s jazz scene thanks to her grace, captivating presence and beautiful voice. In only a few short years, Renée has firmly established herself as a musician dedicated to the art of jazz singing.
Accompanist Francois Gravel is an established pianist from Gatineau with experience in many styles including jazz, rock, and world music. Together they play the classic jazz-blues sound of Mose Allison, Jimmy Smith, and Ruth Brown."
Yoxon and Ferguson - Mark Ferguson has over twenty years of experience in the music industry, working as a pianist, trombonist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator. He has performed with many of the world’s great artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Nelson Riddle, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, and Tom Jones. Together, Yoxon and Ferguson write music that blends the traditions of the Great American Songbook with a contemporary lyrical and harmonic sense.
Roy Patterson -For guitarist Roy Patterson, growing up in rural Nova Scotia provided a strong sense of individuality rooted in the history of the land that would play a large part in his music. But early musical influences of rock, blues, and R&B are what fostered Roy's interest and passion for the guitar. He has performed with local groups touring Atlantic Canada, meanwhile exploring the mysteries of jazz, listening intensely to the music of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and other masters from the jazz tradition.
Roxy Swan Duo - Roxy Swan is one of Ottawa’s most intoxicating talents. Her voice can be heard throughout the city. Most recently she performed at “The Bell Sens Soiree” at the Hilton Lac Leamy and “The Fine Wine Evening” for the Canada Dance Festival. Music selections include a range of jazz standards and classics that span the decades from WWII to the millennium. Roxy performs great songs made famous by artists such as Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Vera Lynn, the Andrews Sisters, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, the Carpenters and more.
Scott Poll - inspired by first hearing the recordings of Benny Goodman at the age of 12 in his hometown of Kitchener, ON, Scott Poll has been fascinated with jazz clarinet and music of the Swing Era ever since. In 1990, Scott joined the Canadian Forces Central Band in Ottawa, and has since been showcased as a featured clarinet soloist performing swing classics in numerous concerts throughout Canada, Europe and the U.S.A.
Search Engine - Jeff Asselin - Brian Asselin (Tenor Sax), Jeff Asselin (Drums), Eric Disero (Piano) and Alex Mastronardi (Bass). This group has been a driving force in the Ottawa jazz community with multiple appearances at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival.
Sonia Ndongmo Duo - is made up of Sonia Ndongmo and Abel Maxwell. Together they are one of Ottawa’s top Soul-Jazz duos. Ottawa born Sonia Ndongmo has been singing professionally for 17 years. She is a top on-call vocalist because of, among other things, her work with artists such as Nelly Furtado, Ziggy Marley, Tracy Chapman and many more. Sonia is blessed to work with Abel Maxwell. Abel is among the most gifted of jazz pianists and hails from the most renowned jazz conservatories in France.
Steve Berndt - Ottawa singer/trombonist/composer/arranger Steve Berndt has been performing a broad range of musical styles in clubs, festivals, concerts and private events for many years with his jazz quartet, his recording act The Jivewires, and the ska band Rudeboy.
Steve Berndt and Brian Browne perform jazz standards and original songs in support of their recent release of "Déjà Vu", an album in the style of the Bill Evans/Tony Bennett recordings.
Steve Geyer - In 1985 Steve auditioned on piano for the music program at Humber College, Toronto and was equally thrilled, and honoured when the acceptance letter arrived in the mail. He attended the same year as the renowned guitarist Jeff Healey. Steve has recorded in prestigious studios from Toronto to Ottawa as a session player and has produced solo and group CD's, recorded church choirs and composed and arranged custom music for organizations and individuals. Today Steve continues to teach private lessons in piano, guitar, drums, theory and digital multitrack recording. He composes, records and produces music in his home studio while developing his website to include online interactive music education and to showcase his students, clients and recording artists.
Tom McMahon - is an accomplished performer and composer who has ventured into many styles of music. Tom graduated with honours from Humber College Music Program and along with Baliset also plays acoustic bass, fretless and fretted electric bass. No stranger to the studio, he has recorded with many musicians and vocalists, participated in radio and television programs and entertained local and international audiences in live performances.
Torchlight Duo - brings to life some of the 1940s and 1950s best jazz standards and torch songs. Enjoy the timeless music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and all the jazz greats!
Touch of Class Duo - a singer, songwriter, tap dancer and tap dance teacher, Shirley Murray enjoys singing R&B, Funk, Jazz and Rock. Currently performing with Touch of Class Duo, amongst others, her sound is a full, rich and soulful one.
Tyler Kealey - is a talented blues/jazz/pop pianist and singer who performs regularly as part of a popular dueling pianos show. He is constantly lending his talent to local bands, and has played with Silver Creek, the Cooper Brothers, Charlie Major, and Roxanne Potvin. Tyler plays a successful solo pop act as well and has released his first full length album, Characters, in 2009.
The Wayne Eagles Trio performs with rare interaction over a broad dynamic range. The trio repertoire extends beyond jazz standards into ECM-inspired fusion and original material. |
